01 How do I become a certified ICF coach?
Certified coaches have met rigorous experience and education requirements. It demonstrates a coach’s commitment to coaching excellence.
You can do this in four simple steps:
- Enrol in a coach training program that meets ICF’s standards.
- Meet the designated coaching experience hours.
- Team up with a mentor coach.
- Show your understanding and mastery of ICF’s definition of coaching, core competencies and code of ethics.
02 How many ICF coaches are there?
According to the ICF membership fact sheet of January 2018, there were 18,696 coaches in 114 countries (The numbers often fluctuate).
ICF has over 130 chapters and is in 70 different countries. These are local communities of members of the ICF. Each chapter has occasions that allow members to build relationships, network, and develop professionally.
Coaches in a local area can launch and maintain an ICF chapter.

The ICF was founded in 1995 and is the leading global organisation that seeks to advance the coaching profession by providing independent certification, setting high standards, and creating a network of credentialed coaches.
